Word of the day: ochonapei
Och: reef
Nap: big, great
Ei: mine, me
Ochonapei literally means "my great reef" or barrier and is usually used in Riafouology to refer to ones own spirit or liveliness.
Our ancestors used to prize their islands for having big mountains or great reefs. Islanders within the Chuuk lagoon would take pride in their island having a taller mountain than another island; while Islanders in the smaller outter islands would adopt the same attitude with their reefs. Basically, mountains and reefs played significant roles throughout Chuuks history so there is no surprise when they take on other allegorical meanings.
